Australian Rider Profiles

Cadel Evans

Australia's great Tour de France hope, Cadel Evans finished second on the podium in 2007 and 2008. With the return of Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador to the 2009 Tour de France, Evans will be in the position of challenger. This and stronger team support should allow him to concentrate on his own race without the pressure of being the pre-race favourite.

Brett Lancaster

The Shepparton born Lancaster will provide his teammate, former Tour de France green jersey winner Thor Hushovd, with solid leadout credentials and will use his strong time-trialling skills to support of team leader Carlos Sastre. Lancaster has grand tour experience, including a prologue win at the Giro d'Italia in 2005 which saw him in the leaders jersey.

Michael Rogers

After struggling with his fitness over the past two years, Michael Rogers is ready to resume his assault on the Tour de France podium. He has started the 2009 season in great form winning a National Title to his name. With a solid top ten finish in the Giro d'Italia fresh in his legs, Rogers will be one of the riders to watch.

Mark Renshaw

A former World Champion on the track, Mark Renshaw brings his speed to one of the most important jobs in pro cycling, acting as the leadout man for the worlds fastest sprinter, Mark cavendish. With Cavendish looking to win his first Green Jersey in Paris you can expect to see Renshaw at the front of every stage the Manxman hopes to win.

Stuart O'Grady

Stuart O'Grady has ridden the Tour de France since 1998 and is a perennial green jersey contender. He wore the yellow jersey of race leader in 1998 and 2001. In 2007, O'Grady became first Australian to win a major classic when he crossed the line first in Paris-Roubaix in a race that demonstrated and rewarded his trademark toughness.

Matthew Lloyd

One of the less well know Australians. A mountains specialist, Matthew Lloyd contracted win with Silence-Lotto in 2007 after a number of promising results, despite a serious early season setback he performed well in the Dauphine Libre and is expected to be an faithful lieutenant to Cadel Evans' ambitions of a first Tour de France win.
